It is based on the true story told in the book The Unbreakable Boy: A Father’s Fear, a Son’s Courage, and a Story of Unconditional Love by Scott Michael LeRette and Susy Flory. The movie stars Zachary Levi in the lead role, along with Meghann Fahy, Jacob Laval, Drew Powell, Gavin Warren, and Patricia Heaton. Lionsgate announced the movie in November 2020, with Jon Gunn as the writer and director. Filming started the same month in Oklahoma and finished in December. The Unbreakable Boy is set to be released in the United States by Lionsgate on February 21, 2025.

Release
The movie The Unbreakable Boy was supposed to be released in the U.S. on March 18, 2022. However, eight days before the release, Lionsgate removed it from their schedule without giving a reason or a new date. After being delayed for over two years, the film finally got a new release date on January 24, 2024.
